SHELBY: MUSTANG

This is Shelby, she is a BLM mustang that I saw and took pictures of. She had only been in amongst humans for less than a year and she was so obedient and so gorgeous. This stance just portays her majesty and shows her will was not broken, but humans were merely added to her life. This is a 7x5 original scratchboard without color added. STARLING

This is a starling, one of those plain black birds with spots. But when the sun hits it, the bird becomes such a gorgeous irridescently colored creature. This is 5x7 with acrylic inks and is currently available for purchase. sues.art@gmail.com

WHAT IS SCRATCHBOARD ART?

I have dedicated this blog to the newly discovered 'old' art of scratchboard art.

Just what is scratchboard?

It is not a drawing although you start by drawing your image onto it. It is not a painting although you paint on acrylic inks (or any water color type of medium) for colorization. Your image is produced by scratching. The concept is a support (paper or such) that is covered in a thin layer of white clay, then a layer of india ink. In order to get your image, you scratch through the ink to show the clay underneath.


This art is very labor intensive, but becomes one of the most lifelike of all arts when finished.
